Digital Her supports two more women into Tech by awarding Coding Scholarships

We are pleased to announce that our Digital Her x Code Nation scholarships have been awarded to Adenike and Naila. They will each be completing Software Development courses with Code Nation to help them develop their skills and move into the Tech industry.

With an increase in demand and a significant skills shortage in the sector, these courses offer a pathway into the industry that is often inaccessible and we are very excited to see how our two scholars get on during their studies.

We caught up with Adenike Adeshina who is starting her Develop:Coding course today, a three week course where she will learn to create websites and python applications.

Adenike is a Manchester resident who is currently looking for work, in her spare time she helps out at her local church and is a member of their IT department.

“Thank you very much for the opportunity given to me to be able to take this career path. I’m so looking forward to this programme because it will be a life changing career for me and I wish to build on it. I believe I can be a good software developer/programmer because of my problem solving skills, ability to adapt and learn.”

Naila Hartigan will be taking on the  Master:Coding 12 Week bootcamp, an immersive course designed to teach technical skills and core skills required within the industry. She will be working with a variety of front and back end languages and have the chance to develop a robust portfolio showcasing her skills.

Naila currently works as an accounts administrator and has done for the past 10 years, during the pandemic, Naila quickly realised she was not happy with her role and decided to look for a new career she could move into.

“Switching careers and retraining in something completely different would mean a whole world of many different opportunities. Expanding my knowledge in the ever evolving tech industry & gaining skills I can relate to my children or the future generation.

I am looking forward to meeting my tutor, the team and getting to know people. Also learning to understand how code works and creating websites!”

This is the second year that we have been able to award Digital Her x Code Nation coding scholarships to women wanting to retrain as a software developer. Last year four women were able to retrain via our scholarship programme, and have gone on to secure junior developer positions with companies including Auto Trader, Key Group and I Saw It First.

We wish Adenike and Naila the best of luck with their courses and will be catching up with them once they are finished to learn more about their experience, and their next steps in the industry.
