The most interesting thing I've worked on in my career so far...
When working for CRUK, I co-developed a tool that made computationally simulating the structural changes of proteins a high throughput process, meaning we could look at a lot of cancer mutations and start to more quickly prioritise those that would be good candidates for drug development research.
What inspired me into digital and tech...
I've always loved anything that required problem solving. I'm also quite a visual person, so I love a good diagram or graph! Data analytics means I get to solve (other peoples) problems whilst presenting them in a really visually appealing way.
My educational background is...
I did a degree in Applied Biochemistry, following which I had no idea what I wanted to do. I sort of fell into a research career because someone paid me to do a PhD (Molecular Biology/Biophysics)! I really enjoy the free thinking yet analytical nature of this career.
What advice I'd give to girls thinking about a career in digital and tech...
If you are interested in any level of technology (even just from a "all this tech stuff sounds cool" stand point) start talking to people in tech. Reach out. There are so many different types of roles that you wouldn't have even thought of that might be of interest to you.
