REAL ROLE MODEL

Yekaterina Rudenko
Security Developer
Auden
WHAT DO YOU DO?

I work with a Security and Operations team helping the optimising and automating processes. We are keen to use the best practices within the business to keep information as safe and secure as possible at all stages of work processes. I also am one of the D&I chairs at the company and I help us create a workspace that is a happy and comfortable place for each employee.

WHAT SKILLS DO YOU USE MOST IN YOUR JOB?
  • Coding - I have used various languages throughout my career depending on the scope of the project and thus it never gets boring and keeps you up to speed with modern technologies
  • Learning - moving between various projects and teams forces you to be a fast learner and motivates you to seek out for the things out of your comfort zone to become a better specialists
  • Problem Solving - being any kind of developer or engineer forces you to problem solve. Finding solutions and best ways of doing day-to-day tasks is, actually, one of the most exciting parts of the job
  • Having fun - any job can be stressful, but if you learn how to be optimistic and positive, any challenge becomes easier and more enjoyable
WHAT'S THE MOST INTERESTING THING YOU'VE WORKED ON IN YOUR CAREER SO FAR?

I think I was lucky to start my career at one of the most exciting places for a person who loves fashion and from a small idea we have developed a product that can recognise and advice you similar products based on the image. It was so much fun to see the project's lifecycle: from just the idea to a final, groundbreaking product. Working on it got me involved in so many technologies: from platform to frontend, and help me understand where I see myself in tech world.

WHAT'S YOUR EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND?

I have a year of History of Arts background before I switched to Computer Science and now hold a MSc degree in it. I loved studying and discovering things, so at the early stage of my BSc degree I have worked as a Teaching Assistant helping fellow students.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO GO INTO DIGITAL & TECH?

My father. I always thought I am more of an"artsy" and "creative" person, but he made me realise that creating tech solutions, let it be infrastructure or software, is a creative job, too. On top of that I always wanted to help people and by creating meaningful tech solutions and working with companies that make their customers' lives easier, it was a no-brainer for me to choose this path.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO GIRLS THINKING ABOUT A CAREER IN DIGITAL AND TECH?

Don't be afraid of your dreams. No one is prefect from the beginning and hard work will take you places. Don't be afraid to speak up and be heard. You have ideas and a voice, use them to get you to where you want to be. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Don't be afraid to be yourself. No matter how scary the journey might be, you will enjoy so many things along the way. So be open for the adventure and challenges out there!
