As a Scrum Master, I am an advocate for the Scrum framework (a method we use to deliver software), and my job is to help our development teams use this framework to work as effectively as possible. My day to day is really varied, I could be doing anything from helping the team work through a problem they are facing, to helping our business to understand how we can leverage Scrum to make our customers happier.
worked on a team that built a tool that displays airplane data. The best thing was how pilots used this information to adapt the way they flew the aircraft. Whether it helped save fuel, or reduce their flight time, it’s amazing to see your hard work make a difference.
I did a Geography Degree at Lancaster University, before joining Rolls-Royce on a project management development scheme. I’ve done a couple of project management qualifications, and also my Certified Scrum Master qualification.
At Rolls-Royce, one of my assignments was in the Digital part of the business. I felt so energised by the work all the teams were doing, and I loved the feeling of giving our customers something that makes their lives a bit easier. Also, it was really fun!
Don’t feel pressured to go down a specific route to get into tech. If you’re technically minded and love STEM, that’s super cool, but please don’t be put off if you’re not! There are loads of non-technical roles out there (like a Scrum Master) that are equally as cool.
