WHAT DO YOU DO?

I am an Enterprise Applications Analyst for a global law firm, Latham & Watkins. I provide support for a number of applications used within the firm, from both a backend and user-facing/front end perspective. My role involves upgrading and maintaining the applications and troubleshooting any issues, among a variety of other things.

WHAT SKILLS DO YOU USE MOST IN YOUR JOB?
  • Critical thinking skills – to examine the best way to approach an issue or task.
  • Problem solving – analyse information in order make decisions to resolve a technical issue.
  • Customer service – I work with colleagues (end users) to find solutions to their technical issues. Good customer services skills are essential.
  • Technical skills – I am required to have detailed knowledge, understanding, and in-depth technical skills in order to perform my day-to-day role.
WHAT'S THE MOST INTERESTING THING YOU'VE WORKED ON IN YOUR CAREER SO FAR?

The firm’s rollout of Microsoft 365 software. The project gave me an opportunity to develop and utilise a variety of skills, including project management, application expertise and business analysis, and to collaborate with team members and colleagues across the firm.

WHAT'S YOUR EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND?

I graduated with an arts degree but always held an interest in technology (IT). To help me pursue a career in IT, I studied a postgraduate IT conversion course at Loughborough University. Since then, I have achieved a number of IT-related qualifications relevant to my roles, such as Microsoft Office certifications and ITIL.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO GO INTO DIGITAL & TECH?

The technology industry has always excited me, and the ever-changing, fast-moving pace of change creates plenty of opportunities for ongoing learning and career development. There are also many different areas within technology, so I was also attracted by the variety of different career paths. It’s a constantly evolving industry.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO GIRLS THINKING ABOUT A CAREER IN DIGITAL AND TECH?

My advice to young women thinking about a career in digital and technology is to start early, stay focused, and concentrate on your contribution to the industry. You will be working in a modern and forward-thinking sector, with constant change and variety.
