REAL ROLE MODEL

Parul Singh
Software Development Recruitment Consultant | Part Time Coder | Mental Health Ambassador
Manhattan Partners
WHAT DO YOU DO?

I work at Manhattan Partners as their software development recruitment consultant covering the North West and across the tech stacks. I'm also learning to code in my spare time and I'm a mental health ambassador too.

WHAT SKILLS DO YOU USE MOST IN YOUR JOB?
  • Recruitment
  • Coding
  • Mental Health Support
  • Networking
  • Content creation (articles, podcasts etc)
WHAT'S THE MOST INTERESTING THING YOU'VE WORKED ON IN YOUR CAREER SO FAR?

Since starting at Manhattan Partners, I've created a series of podcasts with different guests covering topics within tech and mental health. Examples: "Migrating a monolithic React App from JavaScript to TypeScript", "The Power of Saying No", "Running remote teams". I'm really proud of the content I've been able to bring out to educate the tech community

WHAT'S YOUR EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND?

I studied at the University of Manchester, I completed a Masters in Chemistry, following that I started my first proper job in recruitment. Since 2018 I've fully immersed myself in the tech scene, I've attended as many meetups as I could and got to know my market inside out.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO GO INTO DIGITAL & TECH?

If I'm honest I kind of fell into tech recruitment, not knowing a thing about tech. But as each day has passed I love it more and more. I've learnt about all sorts from the front end to back end to cloud. I meet some really inspiring people every day

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO GIRLS THINKING ABOUT A CAREER IN DIGITAL AND TECH?

A career in tech isn't just coding! And coding is actually really awesome I've been learning for 3 months now, which I was surprised at how easily I picked it up. Theres a great lack of women in tech, especially in leadership positions. Explore your options because you could be the next tech leader that Manchester needs!
