REAL ROLE MODEL

Nina Halls
IT Project Manager - Information Security and Agile Specialist
Horwich Farrelly
WHAT DO YOU DO?

I am an IT Project Manager specialising in Information Security, Cyber Security and Agile Delivery methodology across complex SDLC's. I currently run three complex Programme's: ISO Complex CMS & PMS Agile Adoption (across the entire firm)

WHAT SKILLS DO YOU USE MOST IN YOUR JOB?
  • Agile Modeling - modeling and documenting software systems based on best practice
  • Iterative Development - Management and design of Development cycles breaking down large applications down into smaller chunks
  • Project planning - mapping and recording schedules of work/effort required to deliver against projects
  • Risk Management - identification and evaluation of risks associated with programmes
  • Project Governance - Building and managing a framework of governance around all projects to manage information and enable reporting against the projects/programmes
WHAT'S THE MOST INTERESTING THING YOU'VE WORKED ON IN YOUR CAREER SO FAR?

This isn't the most popular answer however it would have to be the GDPR Programme I successfully delivered whilst working for a fast paced FinTech, the combination of complex workstreams and technical requirements made for an exciting programme of delivery. With many challenges this programme pulled on a huge skillset

WHAT'S YOUR EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND?

School and college days weren't overly inspiring/directional and as such I was slightly late to the digital/tech party however this did not stop me from pursuing the career I knew I wanted. My entire professional development is all self funded - Prince2 Practitioner, Agile Practitioner, currently studying towards ISO 27K1 Lead Implementer, Scrum Master

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO GO INTO DIGITAL & TECH?

In one PM role we had a huge transformation of our software system where the contract Technical team required my support and guidance on the requirements of the system, this point was pivotal to my change of direction from Client PM into the digital/technical/cyber security space. The team guided me as much as I guided them and the skills i developed provided a pathway to where I am today

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO GIRLS THINKING ABOUT A CAREER IN DIGITAL AND TECH?

The main advice I would want to share to young women wanting a career within the digital/tech space is that the opportunities are endless and there isn't anything you can't achieve, with the right support and encouragement to increase confidence and eradicate self doubt you can achieve anything!
