During my day to day role I work with designers and developers to make sure the AutoTrader website is usable for our consumers. Using different tools from eye tracking glasses to help me see where users are looking when they are browsing our website to online tools like UserZoom so that we can get quick feedback to help us make our designs better.
I helped create a voice skill to use on the Google home hub for Asda and Walmart. This is now being used in America by over 1 million people.
I struggled at school and was quite shy. When I went to college I really came out of my shell and started to thrive in the setting which helped me in my education. I then went on to study Web Development at Manchester Metropolitan university in 2016. Since then I have worked in 2 roles. A UX researcher at a behavioural research agency in leeds where I was able to work for clients like Coca Cola, Amazon and Mcdonalds. Im now a senior user researcher at AutoTrader and have been in this position for 6 months.
I was always interested in tech from a very young age, I took an advanced computing course in secondary school and was the only girl on the course. It was something I enjoyed doing and just happened to have a natural talent in. I also wanted to take an engineering class but was told to take cookery instead...
If you enjoy something you will find that learning about it is 10x easier and one day your job might not seem like work, but a hobby that you really enjoy (and get paid for!!). If people ever doubt you, carry on doing what you're doing and prove them wrong. Jobs in tech are one of the best paid and in demand jobs at the moment and this isn't going to change anytime soon.
