I work for Wigan Libraries assisting to develop an innovative, supportive and relevant service for the residents of Wigan Borough. Our team works together to organise and develop digital, cultural and learning events and activities. I recruit and liaise with volunteers, find ways to improve the customer journey and manage our social media accounts. I encourage people to get into reading and help to design Wigan Libraries own annual summer reading challenge for children.
The D:Circus Digital Art Project; a programme funded by Arts Council England and Wigan Council, to deliver high quality digital art and opportunities to learn and enhance digital creativity. The project included Light Night Wigan & Leigh, a two-day festival including an illuminated parade, creative workshops and a digital art trail.
I have an Art History BA (Honours) Open Degree, iDEA Bronze and Silver Award and Level 5 Leadership and Management Award. I’m an Arts Award Advisor – Discovery & Explore and I’m currently learning British Sign Language to help me communicate with deaf library users.
I was fascinated by computers and loved video games as a child. I also use digital tech a lot in creating and documenting art work. Working in tech seemed like a natural progression for me, because it gave me the chance to help people whilst learning technical skills.
Do it! Working in digital and tech is really rewarding, it encourages you to be innovative, keep up with digital trends and constantly develop your digital skills. It has empowered me to strive to do bigger and better things and update my skills on a regular basis.
