REAL ROLE MODEL

Duha Aziz
SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT RECRUITMENT CONSULTANT | DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION ADVOCATE
MANHATTAN PARTNERS
WHAT DO YOU DO?

I work at Manhattan Partners as their software development recruitment consultant specializing in the .NET tech stack across the North West. I'm a diversity and inclusion advocate too!

WHAT SKILLS DO YOU USE MOST IN YOUR JOB?
  • Recruitment
  • Content creation (blog posts, podcasts etc)
  • Event hosting (roundtables, webinars, panels etc.)
  • Networking
WHAT'S THE MOST INTERESTING THING YOU'VE WORKED ON IN YOUR CAREER SO FAR?

So far, I've been able to host and bring amazing events to the tech community! This is something I am very proud of and love doing. I believe lots of people have benefited from these events from networking, collaborating, exploring new ideas and dissecting challenging problems as well as knowledge sharing. Building a community of like-minded individuals has been something that I've always wanted to do.

WHAT'S YOUR EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND?

I gravitated towards business studies whilst at school. I studied at the University of York, I completed a Masters in Marketing. Since 2019 I've been working in the tech industry as a tech recruiter and using my marketing skills everyday when writing and designing attractive job adverts and promoting events.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO GO INTO DIGITAL & TECH?

I grew up in the dot.com era, spent endless hours on miniclip, bebo, myspace and all the other pre-Instagram platforms haha! So I think the digital world was always going to be a part of my adult life in some way, shape or form. It's all around us! I've been fortunate to have got into tech recruitment as it has taught me a lot about tech and software from the inside. I am inspired everyday by the conversations I have with software engineers that are building really innovate and cool things, solving complex problems and pushing us forward as a society and human race.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO GIRLS THINKING ABOUT A CAREER IN DIGITAL AND TECH?

Don't listen to anyone that tells you to focus on more 'girly' subjects if you're interested and get excited about using computers in IT or Design and Technology class. Use YouTube to find content creators that work in tech or make educational resources about tech that look like you and subscribe to their channels. Use Google to find out about all the different types of roles in tech. It's not just software engineering, there's product management, project management, ux/ui designer, business analyst, SEO specialist and much more! Ask lots of questions and stay curious.
